My Story

My profound relationship with art began with a painting by the Virgin Mary. I have always believed that a work of art carries a message, whether practical or not, but I had never expected it to hold such power as religion painting. As a professional artist, I've learned contemporary methods for expressing my emotions through modern art. However, I have a strong inclination to revisit the study of Ethiopian Orthodox icons, as it is within my reach to acquire more knowledge about this tradition. The message conveyed by art has indeed evolved from the Middle Ages to the modern world. As an artist, I've come to realize that the initial impact of art often serves as a starting point for discussions. Early Christianity effectively communicated the word of God through illustrations, skillfully blending art with religious teachings. Nevertheless, throughout history, various artistic movements have gained fame within their specific time and place. In contemporary times, our focus has shifted towards modern and contemporary art, and even individuals without formal art training engage in creative work for enjoyment and self-expression.

In my own work, I gravitate towards the modern realistic style. I don't copy from models or specific materials; instead, I convey my message through realistic figure drawing. However, my compositions embrace a modern approach to artistic expression. This fusion of realistic techniques with a contemporary sensibility enables me to convey my ideas in a unique and engaging manner. My preferred art medium is mixed media; I frequently use acrylic paint on canvas while incorporating elements such as colored paper, magazine collage, crayon, colored pencils, and watercolor into my paintings. Among my favorite artists, Wosene Worke Kosrof, the Ethiopian painter, holds a special place for me due to his fusion of mixed media techniques with the Ethiopian alphabet. His unwavering dedication to his craft is also incredibly inspiring. Regarding my potential career path, I aspire to become a studio artist.
